Hey y’all! My name is Adiam Gebre and I am the owner of Brown Sugar. I have been an esthetician for over 10 years and specialize in all things skincare! I am very excited to welcome you to my Brown Sugar community.
I’ve always known that skincare is my calling. I grew up as a first-generation Eritrean-American, with a mother that worked hard to give me a beautiful life and inspired me to chase after my passions (shout out to you, Mama!). Growing up, I experienced many skincare concerns such as eczema, hyperpigmentation, acne, ingrown hairs, and more (the list goes on and on lol).
Finding an esthetician that looked like me was hard. Many of the places I went to for my skincare concerns did not have any knowledge or experience with darker skin types. These experiences can leave anyone feeling frustrated and isolated. After several failed attempts, I decided to educate myself so I could spread the word around to our melanated people.
Seeing the minimal knowledge and respect towards BIPOC and LGBTQ+ identities really motivated me to become a licensed esthetician. Even after years of working in beauty salons, I have witnessed a lack of effort to understand these people’s skin and hair and no desire to include diversity trainings within their companies. This directly impacts how clients are treated.
Like anyone in their professional career, I am always open to growing and learning. It is important to me to continue my education by learning new techniques, research, staying up to date with products, treatments, and science behind skin care. I have such a strong passion and care for making people feel beautiful through skin care. After years in the industry it’s time for me to make my own mark. Thank you for supporting, listening, and being a part of my journey!
